Well....learning how to put this site together is a bit of an adventure in itself - definitely keeps one on their toes!!! I'm looking forward to seeing the end results since I have no clue what it will look like!

Keep in mind my personal information will be relocated to a different site, while my professional information will likely stay here. I guess that's it for now.  Create a beautiful day everyone!

I arrived in St. Lucia on May 26...to a new world of a very different culture.

Here, I was greeted by lively vivacious people who greeted me on the streets with "Hi are you ok?" and "Hello m'lady, you ok?".  I was not only met with greetings from strangers, but also greeted with new ways of doing things such as not really standing in line at bakerys but getting in line or 'ques' at the grocery stores.

Women dressed conservatively, as did the men - where people seemed to have no problems wearing suits in the humidity and heat (and I thought Ottawa was humid!).  Colours and splashes of bright yellows, greens, turquoise, reds and blues walked past me on the streets where Sundays, people wore their Sunday best - suits and ties and stylishly elegant dresses to church.

For me this caught my eye because here I was coming from a campus where students wear pajamas and gym wear to class!!  When I mentioned this to my newfound friends - they laughed and expressed how this was considered inappropriate.

While people, sounds and community kept my senses stimulated, the birds, crickets and frogs brought my experience to a whole new level. It was overwhelming to me how the crickets and frogs sang all night - sounding much like the Eaglebone Whistles dancers use in ceremony - nonstop and steady.  This was one thing that kept me from missing home at times - it was strange how I missed the sights and sounds of our chickadees, robins, the sound of spruce, birch and poplar trees.  Still - I enjoyed the beginnings of life long friendships with this beautiful land.
